About Me

Hello! I’m Alicia, and I make voices and stories sound their best.

I’m an Audio Engineer, Editor, and Sound Designer who has been specializing in dialogue and story-driven content for over 13 years. Most recently I worked full-time as a Supervising Sound Editor at Calm, where I oversaw the audio post-production of Sleep Stories and mindfulness content across English and Spanish. In addition to previous full-time roles in audiobooks and casino games, I have provided freelance audio services throughout my career.

I studied Music Technology at NYU and grew up playing classical violin. I’m also native bilingual in English and Spanish. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and son.

The Long Story

From a piano bench to the Sleep Stories studio

I always thought I would become a professional musician or music producer. Music was a part of my life since I was a baby. One of my earliest memories is sitting at my aunt’s piano, experimenting with the sounds the keys made.

My family is very musical. My dad is a singer and used to play classical guitar. He and my mom were also great salsa dancers. My maternal grandmother loved singing to us.

I started playing violin in elementary school and fell in love with it. I still play to this day.

By the time I was in high school, I dreamt of becoming either a music producer or a film composer. I was already producing music and writing lyrics for fun at home. I was fortunate that my high school offered an elective sound engineering class my senior year of high school, which taught me a lot and opened my eyes to further opportunities outside of composing or producing. That class led me to decide to major in Music Technology at NYU due to its balance of traditional music courses and audio technology.

Then my path toward music started to shift in college, where I took some audio for video courses and began working on student films as sound designer and mixer. I loved the work I was doing and considered aiming toward audio post-production.

After I graduated, I continued to work on short films on the side while I worked a full-time job managing data at Dale Pro Audio, an audio sales company. About a year after that, I landed a job as an Associate Sound Engineer at casino game company High 5 Games.

At that point I felt that I had made it. I was in a niche but I was working on music and using my audio tech skills. Then I got laid off and after a few months I found a job in audiobooks. I had never really thought of audiobooks as a career option beforehand but it turned to be a fantastic fit that I enjoyed due to my love of books and languages.

“A 7-year tenure that took me from freelance editor to full-time Dialogue Editor to Supervising Sound Editor.”

I loved it so much, that I started to branch out on my own and work with individual clients on podcasts and audiobooks on the side, and I eventually got enough work to brave freelancing full-time.

Then after about a year of full-time freelancing, I received a message from a recruiter on LinkedIn. He was looking for a Spanish-speaking audio editor for Calm. And thus began a 7-year tenure that took me from freelance editor to full-time Dialogue Editor to Supervising Sound Editor.

Sadly, I was laid off from Calm due to a reduction in force. After taking time to focus on family, I am now freelancing again and excited to continue providing my audio services.
